About

A place for random thoughts, memories, hopes and  dreams, in no particular order, but as they come to mind. Born in July 1945, I’m now retired after a very eclectic work history with no discernible career path.  I have a grown son and a daughter who died in November 2018 at the age of 47.  I live in Salem, Oregon but I’ve also lived in and around Boston, Massachusetts, in New York City and in Louisville, Kentucky.  I like to read, ride my bicycle and gravitate toward water.  I’m left of liberal and active in progressive causes, especially concerning urban sustainability, renewable energy, climate change and alternative economics. I take this motto, which originated with one of my favorite organization Bikes Not Bombs, for my own:

Lasting peace & social justice require equitable & sustainable use of resources.

This photo, from the 350.org Flickr stream, popped up on a list of suggestions from Word Press, evidently based on words I’ve used here.  I took the photo (the road wasn’t tilted, the camera was, propped up on a bicycle seat) & I organized this bike/walk Tour de Flood for the 350.org 2012 event Connect the Dots Between Weather and Climate Change, featuring several places hit hard by the January 2012 flood in Salem.
